At the latest Open Your Doors Day, held on 17 September at AlixPartners’ London offices, 27 aspiring professionals stepped into rooms that might one day be their own workplaces. They networked with industry experts, explored career paths, and discovered first-hand how talent can blossom when organisations choose to invest in potential rather than circumstance.
The day wasn’t without its surprises. Midway through the sessions, the building’s fire alarms rang out, sending guests and hosts spilling into the crisp September air. For a moment, uncertainty hung over the group - but what followed was a testament to the spirit behind the event.
Smiles replaced worry as mentors and attendees continued their conversations outside, using the unexpected pause as a chance to bond over shared resilience. When the all-clear came, everyone returned inside, more determined than ever to make the most of the day.
James Adeleke, CEO of Generation Success, summed it up perfectly:
“Open Your Doors is about breaking down barriers, about saying to every young person: you belong here. Today showed us that even when alarms go off — literally or metaphorically — we keep opening doors.”
The impact of the day was felt deeply by those who attended:
Meerab shared: “I loved getting to network with people at the same stage as me. The case study gave us a real glimpse into the challenges consultants tackle daily. I learned how unique AlixPartners is, how they manage high-risk situations, and about the different kinds of consultants. I’m inspired to start my internship applications — especially with the interview tips and preparation advice we heard today.”
Michael reflected: “The case study was incredible — real, hands-on project experience. I didn’t know much about consulting before, but I learned so much about the industry and how consultants help people solve problems they can’t fix alone. The speakers laid out how to navigate internships and graduate schemes, and my group was full of like-minded people, all here for a reason. My biggest takeaway? Say yes to opportunities — everyone who applied to OYD already has the ambition to grow their careers.”
Freya added: “Talking to professionals can feel intimidating, but today everyone was so encouraging. A short conversation helped me understand their daily activities, how they got where they are, and how to build experience even if you’re just starting out. I also had worries about AI in consulting, but they explained how people are still essential — it’s about developing skills alongside new tools. The case study, interview prep, and guidance on what to ask clients were real highlights.”
By the end of the afternoon, stories of encouragement, advice, and ambition filled the room. Participants left with new contacts, fresh confidence, and the belief that setbacks don’t close doors; they challenge us to push them wider.
The partnership between Generation Success and AlixPartners demonstrates what happens when organisations commit to leveling the playing field. They remind us that real opportunity isn’t fragile - it’s built to endure.
